A disgruntled contractor hacks into a council’s waste management system and releases millions of litres of raw sewage into the community. Over $50,000 was spent on the clean up before the attack was even identified.
The following security measures would assist businesses, to reduce the risk of a similar incident occurring in their business:
- IT passwords changed once a new system is installed, commissioned, and handed over
- Issue, audit, and control of administrator passwords for system IT access
- Contractor agreements to govern disposal of company information post contract
- Contractor agreement governing Code of Conduct
